Illustration

This is where I am most comfortable and passionate. I have always loved drawing and "art"ing and with each project I gain another layer of experience and aptitude. While I love drawing and experimenting in my own time, my paid work has presented me with many opportunities to explore different styles. Key Visuals

After being part of the Mix team for eight years, I have been able to play a part in nearly every Key Visual we have made in that time. While I haven't always been part of the initial concept stage, I am usually given the task of taking them through to their finished high resolution stage. This often means modelling and rendering parts of the visuals, retouching the renders and then combining all of the elements on the page in a user friendly way for the other team members to be able to navigate the files as we take the visuals across the POS Suites and other executions.

3D Environments

During the last four years at The Mix Agency, I have been fortunate enough to learn the 3D software "Cinema4D" (or C4D for short). This tool has been an invaluable addition to my toolbox as it can either augment or even replace the previously arduous processes of creating shmick and realistic imagery. In the gallery above, I was able to work with a team mate to create and dress up a concept Subway store which was subsequently built (in real life) in QLD. When Coca-Cola needed us to conceptualise a Frozen Zone for a trade show, I was able to quickly knock some walls together and iterate on screen with the art director to find the solution to queuing issues and then dress it up in photoshop. The walk through animation was built and rendered for coke reps as part of a sell in app. The popcorn animation was a team effort to create an eye catching digital pillar at a Popcorn stand in Hoyts Chadstone Melbourne. For the Kinder Chocolate Halloween Stand, the client needed to visualise a lenticular header card. Which meant rendering three passes in C4D and doing basic editing in After Effects.

3D Asset Creation

When TicTac wanted to see what a CDU looked like if they threw a bit of money into vac-forming, we were able to visualise that for them. When we need imagery for a Key Visual which doesn't exist on stock sites, we make it. Animating a cheeky diabetes bottle is just a few clicks away. Master renders for KV's, POS suites, internal meetings, catalogues, reference libraries and web banners, are all possible with a bit of C4D and Adobe mixed together.

Rio Olympics Suite

In preparation for the RIO Olympics, Coke wanted to produce some collectible packaging and promote it during the Olympic season. But due to the usual timing issues, we weren't going to get the product photographed in time. So we whipped up some sexy cans in Cinema4D and rolled out the POS suite in record speed.

With a global event like the Olympics, it usually comes with global guidelines. Coca-Cola provided the documentation and approved photography. We used these ingredients and created theatre in store, providing a range of activations and in-situ renders to sell the concepts in to the client. Working within the team, I was able to take a good portion of ideas from scamps through to finished art.

With my work at Mix I have found that when there is a new product or promotion, there is a call for some sort of store activation or cardboard display to be created. We usually start with scamps, then colour concepts, and if it is complicated we model it in C4D to show the client our idea from every angle. When the manufacturer builds their prototype based on our concept, we usually amend the knives to bring it closer to our original vision and then finish the art. This has meant over time we have been able to build bigger and better Gondola ends, Spectaculars, Wing ends, dump bins, floor displays as the clients trust the process and the manufacturers learn our style.

Packaging

Package Design is where i began my career in 2008 at Zlata Creative. It's where I learnt how to work fast with an art director pointing over my shoulder, how to illustrated and retouch our imagery (often from fairly dodgy photography) to a polished finish and how to cram all those T&C's onto tiny labels. These skills were instantly translatable when i began work at the Mix Agency in 2010 and entered the world of shopper marketing.
